Who we are and this policy
Product Launch Day (productlaunchday.com) is a daily launch platform for software products ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we use it, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, how we protect it, and the rights you have. It covers people who browse the site, people who use our free tools, and people who create an account to launch a product, vote, comment or book an ad.
For anything about your personal data, email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days.
Summary
- Browsing needs no account.
- An account (email and password, or Google) is needed to launch a product, vote, comment or book an ad.
- Product pages, maker profiles, comments and vote counts are public. Email addresses and IP addresses are never public.
- We send website text and listing text to AI services (OpenAI and Anthropic) to draft listings and to help us moderate. A person makes every moderation decision.
- We never sell personal data and never share it except with the providers that run the service.
- You can ask us at any time for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it.
Browsing the site
Browsing needs no account. When you view a product page, follow a link to a product's website, share a product or vote, we record the event for that product's analytics (see "Analytics for makers" below).
Links to a product's website go through an address on our site (/go/ followed by the product's name) and we add tags to the address (such as "utm_source") so the maker can see the visit came from us.
Your account
You can create an account with your email address and a password, or with Google. With email and a password we store your name, your email address and the password as a one-way hash, never the password itself. You confirm your address with a link we email you.
For account security we record each sign-in with the IP address, the approximate location worked out from it (using ipinfo.io), and the browser and device type. You can see this log in Settings > Security.
Google sign-in
If you choose to sign in with Google, we ask Google only for the basic scopes "openid", "email" and "profile". We cannot see your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, contacts or any other Google data, and we never see your Google password.
- What we receive: your name, your email address, whether Google has confirmed that address, your profile picture address and your Google account identifier.
- How we use it: to create your account or sign you in, to show your name and picture, and to send you the emails described below. We use it for nothing else.
- Who we share it with: no one. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
- How long we keep it: while your account exists. It is deleted with your account.
- You can remove our access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Product Launch Day's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What is public
These are shown to anyone who visits the site:
- Product pages: name, tagline, description, logo, screenshots, links and what the product is built with.
- Your public maker profile: username, name, headline, bio, website, X handle and avatar.
- Comments, with the name and username of the person who wrote them.
- Vote counts for each launch.
Your email address and your IP address are never public.
Launching a product
When you start a launch you paste your product's website. Our server fetches that public page and its images to draft a listing for you. We store the listing text you enter and edit, the logo and screenshots, and the links.
If you start a draft before signing up, it is stored for 48 hours and deleted if nobody claims it by signing up.
How we use AI
We use OpenAI and Anthropic (Claude) for these jobs:
- Drafting and improving a listing from your website's text.
- Suggesting taglines, alternatives and launch posts from the listing text you enter.
- Moderating listings and comments. The AI only flags something for review. A person decides.
For these, the services receive the text of your website page and the listing text you enter.
Our free tools (at /tools) also send what you type to these services: a website address that we fetch and read, or a product description for the tagline and name generators. We do not store what you enter in a tool. We keep only a usage log: the tool used, the number of AI tokens, the cost, and a hashed form of your IP address.
Votes
You can vote once per launch. We store each vote with your account, together with a keyed hash of your IP address and of your browser's user agent. We do not store the raw IP address with the vote.
We use these to apply our fraud rules, which set how much each vote counts. Our staff can see votes and how much each one counts.
Analytics for makers
For each product we record page views, clicks to the product's website, shares and votes. With each event we store the site that sent the visitor (its host only), any UTM tags, the country (provided by Cloudflare), the device type, and a visitor code that changes every 24 hours. We do not store the raw IP address and we do not use a cookie for this.
Makers see totals only, never who visited. These records are kept for 400 days.
Payments
Paid launch plans and ad bookings are paid through Stripe Checkout. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers. We store the amount, the plan, the payment status and the Stripe identifiers needed to match a payment to a launch or ad and to refund it.
Emails we send you
We send emails through Mailgun. These include account emails (confirming your address, password resets) and launch emails (your launch was received, approved, rejected, is live, has ended or won, has a new comment, or our badge is missing from your site).
We send the weekly newsletter only if you sign up and confirm by clicking the link in a confirmation email. Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Why we use your data
- To provide the service you ask for: your account, your launches, votes and comments, payments, and the emails about them.
- To keep accounts and the board fair and safe: sign-in records, vote fraud rules, moderation and the badge check.
- To meet legal obligations, such as keeping payment records.
- To show makers how their product page performs, in totals.
Where the law asks for a legal basis (for example the GDPR), these are, in order: performing our contract with you, our legitimate interest in a safe and fair service, legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in providing analytics to makers. For the newsletter we rely on your consent.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies to keep you signed in and to protect a Google sign-in while it is in progress. These are needed for accounts to work.
If Google Analytics is switched on, Google sets its own cookies to tell visits apart. You can block it with a browser setting or extension; the site works the same without it.
Who we share data with
We never sell personal data and never share it for advertising. These providers run parts of the service for us and receive only what their job needs:
- Neon: the PostgreSQL database (Singapore).
- Railway: hosting of the website and server (Singapore).
- Cloudflare: DNS, content delivery, and R2 storage of logos and screenshots.
- Mailgun: sending our emails.
- Stripe: payments for paid launch plans and ads.
- OpenAI and Anthropic: the AI jobs described above.
- ipinfo.io: the approximate location of a sign-in from its IP address.
- Google: sign-in when you choose it, and Google Analytics only if it is switched on.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the service.
International transfers
Our database and hosting are in Singapore and several providers are in the United States, so your data may be processed outside your country. Where the law of your country requires it, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How we protect it
- Encryption in transit everywhere (HTTPS), and at rest by our database and storage providers.
- Passwords stored only as one-way hashes.
- IP addresses on votes, analytics and tool logs stored only as hashes.
- A log of every sign-in you can review in Settings > Security.
- If a breach of personal data is likely to put you at risk, we will tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
How long we keep things
- Your account and its products: until you delete them or ask us to.
- Sign-in records: a limited time, for account security.
- Product analytics: 400 days.
- AI usage logs: kept without the content you entered.
- Anonymous drafts: 48 hours if not claimed.
- Payment records may be kept longer where the law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can:
- Get a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including an export.
- Correct it if it is wrong.
- Have it deleted, including your account and your products. Your votes and comments are deleted with your account.
- Object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent where we rely on it.
- Complain to your data protection authority. We would appreciate the chance to resolve it first.
To use any of these, email [email protected] from the address on your account.
Children
Product Launch Day is meant for adults. Accounts are not meant for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy and will post the new version here with its date. If a change affects how we use your data, we will tell account holders by email. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
